Rob a Jimmy Kimmel show-ban

Robert Pattinson - Interview - Jimmy Kimmel 6... by IdolxMuzic

Our first guest tonight is an internationally adored young man who’s traded in his fangs for good, his new movie’s called The Rover it opens in NY in LA tomorrow, please say hello to Robert Pattinson!

J: Never really fades. All right ladies, calm down, Robert has something he needs to say to you.
RP: God I still get so nervous it’s crazy.
J: I don’t blame you for getting nervous, there’s people screaming at you. Like if that happened when you walk into a mall or something, you’d probably call the police. How is everything?
RP: Yeah, good.
J: Last time you were here you told me you’re living arrangements were a little bit shaky, you said you were living under an archway next to some garbage cans. Is that still the case?
RP: I wish. It’s come a way (??) downhill.
J: Do you have a home now, have you found a place to be, to exist?
RP: Yeah, I mean, I kind of found a little, find myself a little bit more at home in LA.
J: Are you staying inside the house now, or you’re still sleeping outside of the house for no reason?
RP: My parents borrowed my house.
J: They did?
RP: Which I was borrowing of someone else and then kicked me out of it when I came back from Toronto.
J: Really?
RP: So now I’m homeless again.
J: You are a homeless again, that’s crazy! What happens with all your stuff, if you don’t have a house where do you keep it all?
RP: I’m not entirely sure. Somewhere. I wish I do.
J: It’s somewhere in California?
RP: Yeah, I think I have some storage spaces that has some kind of secret key to them somewhere.
J: Do you not know exactly where the storage spaces are?
RP: I’m sure it’s somewhere, one of my, one of my minions.
J: Do you keep minions in your storage space as well?
RP: hát ezt nem értettem
J: And what kind of stuff you keep in your storage facility? I have stuff I don’t know why I won’t throw away, I should throw it away or give it away, but I wanna hang on to it, even though I know I’ll never see it again.
RP: Are you talking about something specifically? Sounds like you’re really thinking about something.
J: Yeah I am thinking about certain things, like pieces of furniture and stuff like that that I have some weird attachement to them for some reason and I keep it, thinking I’m gonna give it to a relative or one of my kids or something like that.
RP: Yeah I was looking for my Teen Choice awards surfboards the other day cause I wanted to make a kind of glory corridor (???) to intimidate guests when they come to the house, like hunting trophies
J: Are those shaped like a surboards?
RP: Surfboards.
J: Really? How many of those do you have?
RP: Well I just gonna --- but I don’t have as many as I thought I did. I was like I gotta have like 30, and I have like 3.
J: So you’re gonna put your teen choice awards on display?
RP: Yeah, and I couldn’t find many, I could only find one, I think they printed the names, they printed the awards all of them on one, that I kind of, they cheated me out of my 30 surboards.
J: Those teen choice, no I’m sure you’ll win more, maybe you’ll build yourself a home out of teen choice awards. You claim to own like a thouands suits, yes? I never know with you because the last time you were here, that you make up a lot of lies for no reason.
RP: It’s panic, it’s panic.
J: Is it?
RP: Yeah, it’s sometimes, german (???) I don’t know I just go down the rabbitwhole that I can’t get out of, for some reason I have an extraordinarily heavy saliva.
J: What does that mean?
RP: It’s funny, I noticed the other day that someone, why am I talking about that,
J: You mean it’s gotta more thickness
RP: It is if I try to spit I can only get it back foot (őőőőő)
J: Really?
RP: Someone infromed me the other day cause that I have very heavy saliva, I thought because I didn’t have much lip power but it’s only easier when I’m lying for some reason I think the panic gives me adrenalin, it makes you
J: It helps loosen your saliva up.
RP: Out.
J: What? I’ve never heard anyone say they have heavy saliva before. Have you weighed it?
RP: --- opening my mouth
J: We should have people drool into a glass and weigh yours against theirs.
RP: I know. Have you ever had someone spit on you? Like, in a kind of erotic way?
J: Let me think about it for a second. No I haven’t, I haven’t had that.
RP: It’s pretty great.
J: It’s good, yeah? But your saliva is so thick you can literally bruise somebody.
RP: Hurt someone (???)
J: This seems like a good time for us to take a break. Are you watching the world cup?
RP: I watched it today.
J: Are you a soccer guy? Let me know, you’ll think about it --------------- We’ll be right back, Robert Pattinson is here.

J: That is Robert Pattinson in The Rover. It’s a nice scene there.
RP: It’s sort of a sequel to Broke Back Mountain, that’s our first date.
J: There’s a lot of chemistry between you, I like that.
RP: I just fainted.
J: Where did you shoot the movie?
RP: In Australia.
J: In Australia, yeah. What part of Australia?
RP: Mainly in a town called Marree, which is like 8 hours the Outback from Adelaide. There’s nothing around. It’s a town of 50 people.
J: Wow!
RP: Yeah.
J: They couldn’t find a more conveniently located
RP: It looks almost identical to the North of LA, it’s just some sand.
J: Your storage facility is probably right next to that place which is exactly like that. And did you like being in that tiny little town like that?
RP: Yeah, I know, it was great. It was an interesting place as well, it was kind of, there was something quite magical about it. It’s serene in its desolation
J: Did they find about your heavy saliva while you were there?
RP: No. Thank God!
J: They did not find about it. How many people live in that area? In that town?
RP: There’s like 50 people and in the next town there’s 3 hours away or something.
J: What do they do for a living, the fifty people? Do they do anything?
RP: I have no idea, there’s literally nothing there.
J: How long were you there?
RP: About a month.
J: You didn’t talk to any of the 50 people in that town?
RP: No no, I did.
J: You could literally have slept in each one of their homes for one night.
RP: Speaking of it, literally there’s been some incredibly bizarre experience. I think Guy, I called Guy Pearce one night, like we lost him, people got disappearing, because there are no street lights outside the pub, like we were all living in a pub and if you left, you were gone. And one night me, couple other, me and Scoot McNairy he plays my brother, and we were looking for Guy and suddenly come to the one light on the house, it was like four o’clock in the morning and Guy is giving like this 80 year old woman a back massage with his shirt off, it’s just the story.
J: I don’t know if this is one of you lies or not, but I like it.
RP: Another day Scoot came back one day, just like on a horse, he was lost for four hours and we were going on a search and he suddenly walks back, riding bareback on a horse, he’s never ridden a horse before, and we literally were like ‘where did you get this horse from?’ And he was like ‘it was just tied up’
J: The movie is called The Rover, it opens in NY and LA tomorrow. I don’t know if I believe anything that you said, but the movie came out great. Robert Pattinson everybody, we’ll be right back!

J: Van most otthonod, találtál egy helyet ahol lehetsz?
RP: Igen, találtam egy kicsit, most már otthonosabban érzem magam LA-ben.
J: És most már bent laksz a házban, vagy házon kívül alszol, minden ok nélkül?
RP: A szüleim kölcsönkérték a házam.
J: Tényleg?
RP: Amit valaki mástól kölcsönöztem, aztán kirúgtak amikor visszajöttem Torontóból.
J: Igazán?
RP: Szóval most megint hajléktalan vagyok.
J: Kegyenceket is tartasz a raktáradban?
RP: hát ezt nem értettem
J: És milyen dolgokat őrzöl a raktáradban?
J: Szóval most kiállítod a Teen Choice díjaidat?
RP: A pánik miatt, a pánik miatt.
J: Igen?
J: Fellazul a nyálad.
RP: Ki.
RP: --- kinyitni a számat.
RP: Tudom. Volt, hogy már rádköpött valaki? Olyan erotikus módon?
J: Hadd gondolkodjam egy kicsit. Nem, az még nem volt meg.
RP: Elég jó.
J: Jó, mi? De a te nyálad olyan sűrű, meg is sérthet valakit.
RP: Bánthatok valakit (???)
J: Ez jó alkalomnak tűnik, hogy szünetet tartsunk. Nézed a világbajnokságot?
RP: Ma néztem.
J: Érdekel a foci? Majd elmondhatod, gondolkodj rajta. Nemsokára visszatérünk, Robert Pattinson van itt!

J: Robert Pattinson a Roverben. Nem semmi jelenet volt.
RP: Egyfajta folytatása a Broke Back Mountainnek (elfelejtettem a Magyar címét és nincs kedvem megkeresni :P), ez itt az első randink.
J: Nem semmi vonzalom van közöttetek, tetszik.
RP: El is ájultam tőle.
J: Hol forgattátok?
RP: Ausztráliában.
J: Ausztráliában, igen. Melyik részén?
RP: Főleg egy kis városkában, amit Marree-nek hívnak, olyan 8 óra autózásra Adelaide-től. Semmi nincs körülötte. Olyan 50-en laknak ott.
J: Wow!
RP: Igen.
Békés a maga pusztaságában.
J: Ők is megtudták, hogy nehéz a nyálad?
RP: Nem. Hála Istennek!
J: Nem tudták meg. Hányan élnek azon a környéken? Abban a városban?
RP: Olyan 50-en élnek a városban és a következő város olyan 3 órányira van.
J: Mit dolgozik az az 50 ember? Csinálnak valamit is?

J: A film a Rover, holnap kerül mozikba New Yorkban és LA-ben.

ABCatthemovies kritika a The Roverről

M: But first David, I think we’re gotta go with The Rover.
D: Well, 10 years after the collapse Outback Australia is a grim, barren place, where outcast of mixed races scrabble to survive in a world where the only curreny accepted is the US dollars. Here desperate ruthless men and women cling to a small venir??? of civilazation. Eric, Guy Pearce, seems when we first see him, to be a tired and beaten man. But when three men steel his car, he becomes obsessed with getting it back. For reasons that are like many elements of the film held back from the audience. While doggedly persuing the men who stole his transportation, Eric reluctantly joins forces with Rey, Robert Pattinson, the injured brother of one of the men.

M: De először David, nézzük a Rovert.

Much was expected of Australian director David Michod after his brilliant, unsettling debut feature, Animal Kingdom. Expectations that have for the most part being met with his second feature. The Rover is a road movie, that inevitably evokes the Mad Max films, because like them it’s set in the desert of an apparently ruined Australia. The new film is also an odd couple movie. With Eric, an apparently decent man, forming a reluctant partnership with the untrustworthy and unpredictable Rey. The film is pretty violent and is structured around a series of suspenseful scenes that are very well handled. Only at the very end does the confrivants of the whole entreprise show through. And by then you’ve either embraced the film for the sheer cinematic smarts it exhibits, or rejected it. Cinematography by Argentina’s Natasha Braier is excellent and among the fine actors to make major contribution are Gillian Jones, as a sinister old woman, Susan Prior, as an isolated doctor, David Field as one of the car thieves, and American Scoot McNairy, who’s Rey’s vicious brother. Margaret, what did you think of The Rover?

Margaret, mit gondolsz a Roverről?

M: I think it is spare genre filmmaking. It is really-really well done, I think Robert Pattinson, that role could have gone so easily awry, and I think he handles it fabuously. Guy Pearce is just wonderfully solid as Eric. I think, one of the great thing about this film is the soundscape on it. With music by Antony Partos and --- contributing as well on the sound design, I think it great, I mean it must be enormous pressure on David Michod to come up with a film after Animal Kingdom and he tries to make this one here in Australia, you know, trying to conceive all the future that is possibly real for this country, so there’s social and economic subtext to the film.

D: I think inevitably after Animal Kingdom which was so good, you feel slightly let down with this. Not greatly, because it’s a beautifully made film

M: It’s so different. He’s being really wise to go ’okay, I’m going out there, filling these rangers, here I come’, I’m giving it four stars.

D: Yes, I am too, four stars.

D: Igen, én is, négy csillagot.

A tizes csatorna riportja a The Rover megnyitóján

I: I’m joined by two of the stars, Mr Robert Pattinson and Mr Guy Pearce, guys welcome!
RP: Thanks for having us!
I: I’m not your first red carpet in Sydney town, are you pleased to be back?
RP: Yeah, absolutely. There’s always a great reception, I’ve never been in the winter though, it’s really strange, doesn’t make any sense.
I: Some of these fans over here have been here since six o’clock this morning. Do you ever feel guilty when they are out there in the cold that long?
RP: Every time. --- my mind. (I trembel, can’t put my mind in it????)
I: One place that wasn’t cold Guy Pearce was where you were filming The Rover. In the --- desert, what temperature did it get up to there?
GP: I think it generally sort of, the heighest was probably about 45, but it wasn’t consistant, so we had some cooler days as well, thankfully.
I: Some pretty intense filming can I say, between the two of you, how did you switch off at the end of the day?
GP: I don’t know, I think you naturally do, it was a pretty intense film to work on, and it’s exhausting not to switch off, and the nice thing is, we were all kind of living together in hotels and motels, so we’d just meet each other in the dining room and had dinner together, really.
I: Did you like working on your first Australian film?
RP: Yeah, I didn’t even really realize it was an Australian film until  I saw it. It has a very distinct like Australian flavour, it’s definitely an Australian film, even though I’m not playing an Australian in it.
I: You’ve just been working with an other Australian in the desert again, am I right? With Nicole Kidman in Morocco?
RP: I was like, who was that? Yeah, yeah, no, she’s amazing, she’s great.
I: So is it your new plan, you gonna work with Australian filmmakers?
RP: In the desert really, it’s all I’m gonna do from now on.
I: Do you think we’ll see you back making more Australian films?
RP: I’d love it, yeah. There’s really great crews, it’s a very specific kind of persons?? in the Australian film industry. It’s kind of weirdly relaxed, though also very focused, I think they’re quite ambitious, Australian filmmakers as well. So yeah, I’d love to.
I: Well we always welcome you, it’s great to see you both, enjoy tonight’s premier here at the Sydney Film Festival and thanks for talking to us.

RP: Minden alkalommal.
I: Szerettél az első ausztrál filmeden dolgozni?
I: Most dolgoztál egy másik ausztrállal is, ráadásul egy sivatagban, igaz?
RP: A sivatagban, igen. Mostantól csak ezt fogom csinálni.
I: Szerinted látni fogunk még itt, ausztrál filmekben?
I: Nos, mindig szívesen látunk, élvezzétek a ma esti premiert itt a Sydney Film Fesztiválon, köszönjük az interjút.
Köszönjük, köszönjük, köszönjük.

Hehe :)

A The Fix beszélget Robbal és Guy-al,

The Fix Talk with RP and GP

I: First thigs first, I watched the Rover, thought it was brilliant. I watched some of it kind of behind my hand. What was going through your mind when you were shooting these violent scenes in the film?
GP: In a way we were sort of able to laugh about the things that we were doing, obviously while we were doing them we were really just trying to inhabit the experience I suppose the characters were having, but I think we all certainly respected the intensity of what the work was and what was required, but I think we were all kind of able to laugh at the end. It seemed pretty crazy some of the stuff that we were doing.
RP: It’s not like pornographic violence as well, it doesn’t seem like, it’s just you know, some movies have this sort of like torture porn thing, this is just like ravel in it.
GP: No, no, that’s right. There’s no gloating (??), I don’t think.

I: Először is, láttam a Rovert és remek filmnek találtam. Bár néhány részét a kezeim mögül néztem.
GP: Ez igaz. Ebben nincs káröröm, szerintem.

I: What was it like to film in the Outback for two months? What was that like?
RP: There’s a sort of serenity about it, I think it really helps with your concentration, cause there’s literally no distractions at all. And also you can kind of, when I like doing weird stuff in between takes and things just to kind of I don’t know, like it does something, and knowing that no one’s really judging your weirdness, like at the side of the set you’re taking a piss like that or something. And you know no one’s taking any photographs or whatever.
GP: It feels like the boundaries kind of get stripped away. And also the material was fairly extreme as well, so Rob was waying (01:58) on set all the time.

I: Milyen volt a világ háta mögött forgatni?

I: Did you pick up any odd slang while you were here, or anything that someone said and you’re thinking what does that mean?
RP: I keep hearing David and Guy saying nodding it out???? I’ve been trying to figure that out some way, I always hear not one on him
GP: Nodding it out, working it out.

GP: Nodding it out, working it out – kitaláljuk/kidolgozzuk.

I: Did you guys use any stunt double at all, or it was all?
GP: There were stunt guys out there of course, absolutely, I mean for the majority of the time we always, on any film really we wanna do as much stuff as we can. I did lot of the driving, we all did the driving whenever we could and if you ran off the read, you just ran into the dirt, so there really wasn’t much damage you were gonna cause.
RP: There was that one scene when they’re shooting at the windows at the motel, and they asked one of the stunt double, and I was like no, I’m good, and genuinely one of the most terrifying experience I’ve ever had in my life, as soon as it started happening, I was like there’s glass flying into my eyeballs, like
GP: Give me the stunt double!
RP: just completely forgot I was in the movie.

I: Használtatok kaszkadőröket?

I: So you started off doing it and then did you get the stunt double?
RP: We only got lucky to do two takes, because there weren’t enough, it was a low budget
GP: Wasn’t enough glass.
RP: It was terrifying.

I: Did either of you actually got hurt at all in any of the scenes?
RP: I remember that being, the first scene between you and me, you were like hitting me up against the car, it was to be like one take, and like damn, that really hurt, and we did like twenty takes of it.
GP: Yeah, he got hurt on the first take. That was all right. I can’t really remember now to be honest. I think we got a few thorns when we were running away from that fence, even though we had shoes on, I think we both stepped on.
RP: Yeah, whoever makes those sneekers, my 7 dollar sneekers which I was wearing, they were not desinged for outback hiking.

I: Megsérültetek a forgatáson?

I: And Rob, what made you want this role so much?
RP: I just very very rarely connect to anything, basically one script a year, maybe, which I kind of like and feel like I can do, and so it’s kind of the prospect of not being able to do was terrifying. But I haven’t even done an audition through choice, it’s not like I got offered stuff, I don’t, but they just read me out, so since Twilight I think I’ve only done three auditions in four or some years, and this was the only one I got. But there was just something about the character I just really really connected to it.

I: És Rob, miért akartad ezt a szerepet annyira?

I: And was the auditioning nervrecking, or?
RP: Terrifying. I hadn’t even talked to David before and the character was so sort of loose, and I thought I had an idea of what it was and I’m basically doing what I ended up doing in the movie, but I mean going in this sort of half in character to David’s house to do the audition hm is he like mentally handicapped? Am I just doing now the wrong thing?
GP: Am I in the wrong movie?
RP: Yeah, so it was a little bit terrifying.

I: Idegtépő volt a meghallgatás?
Vagy most szándékosan a rossz dolgot csinálom?
GP: A jó filmben vagyok egyáltalán?
RP: Igen, szóval elég ijesztő volt.

I: Thank you so much for talking to us.

Mindenki megköszöni mindenkinek.

Recontres de Cinema

transcript - köszönettel az Rpatzklub-nak

ICYM : The complete transcription of Rob, Guy and David's interview in "Rencontres de Cinéma" on Canal +
Laurent : Guy, Robert and David , thanks for being with us today. You're here to talk about your upcoming movie, The Rover. First of all, David, I want to know how you manage to shoot a movie who is a thriller, an action movie, a survivor movie, a road trip with strong characters. It's amazing. What was your first motivation when you decided to direct this movie?
David: The 1st idea was very simple : just about a man in the desert who got his car stolen. Then I started building everything else around this idea. Throughout the screenplay writing, it became a mixture of various different elements. This movie looks like a western. What I really wanted to do was that the audience could feel something. During the shooting , it happened a lot for me that , after watching the dailies , I was like "What is this movie I'm doing? What is it ? It' really weird".
Laurent : Guy , was it a constant work on your character everyday?
Guy: Actually I talked a lot with David about who was this man , what he lived before you met him at the beginning of the movie. For me, most of my work was done during rehearsal during our talks in order to really get who the character was. Of course, when you're doing a movie, the shooting is always a work in progress. You know which way you're heading but it 's rather how you do it to get there.
Laurent: Did you try to make up a backstory for your character?
Guy : Yeah, of course . You can't only rely on the very few information we have when we discover the character. You must rely on the entire story. For me , the movie wasn't just about a stolen car. The objective was a previous one so that's what I focused on.
Laurent: Robert, the movie atmosphere was also important for you?
Rob: Yeah absolutely. For me, the difference is how I viewed my character. Contrary to you. Rey, my character has always lived in that world. Whereas Eric, Guy's character, had a different life before.
Laurent: At the same time, this character is a present. Everything is allowed with this kind of guy.
Rob: Yeah, when we read his description. We're told he's from somewhere in the South of the USA. But we don't know precisely what kind of accent he has. It's amazing since we can play this character in so many different ways.
Laurent: Yeah that's true.
Rob: I remembered when I arrived on set in the morning I didn't know what was going to happen to him or what was his accent like.
Laurent: Robert , did you try different things with Guy? Did you exchange ideas during the shooting?
Rob: Yeah my role.
Guy: And we also rehearsed before the shooting. We had a week to rehearse in Adelaide so we could find out who were our characters at that time.
Rob: and as for my character, you must know that most of my acting consisted in reacting to your character. Your part is like a constant force in the movie.
Guy: And I also play according to Rob's reactions. I also had to try not to react.
Laurent: Just like a tennis match.
Guy: Because Rob gives both a vulnerable and heartbreaking performance. Which was awesome for me since my character couldn't be overwhelmed by all that. At leads up to the moment when their relationship changes.
Laurent: Guy it must be so exciting when a director like David propose you such a project?
Guy : Yeah it's incredible. Even when you know him for a long time, when it's with someone you like, with whom you want to work with; when he gives you this kind of project... you know it balances all the times when you have to fight to get a part or when you're playing characters who are not very important. So when you get this kind of proposition, it's always exciting. It's like when you're a small actor and they propose you a big part, you have this feeling of euphoria that never changes. It's very rare but when it happens it's delicious, it's a great honor.
Laurent: David, how did you try to work with Robert and Guy? Did you give them a lot of freedom?
David: no , no freedom at all !
Guy : He locks us in our rooms. We can't even go to eat at the restaurant. No freedom at all !
David: When I write a story , I have a very precise idea of who the character is but it's only after casting the actors and after talking about the characters with them that they get all their dimension. I imagine the character of Eric with Guy on my mind. I had always had him on mind when I wrote the script. But we could really talk about him in details with Guy a few days before the shooting. It's incredible what we could do with such a few days of rehearsal! When we worked on set the very 1st day, to shoot the very 1st scene with Guy. It was exhilarant for me. Just to see the way Guy was standing. I had the character in front of me. Then we had told him all about Eric's back story. I didn't know who I wanted for Rob's character. I met Rob before and I had found him very interesting. When I started the casting, I had this weird feeling that he was the actor I wanted to see the most! Fortunately he came to the screen testing and once more it was exhilarant. I was convinced I had found the character and the man who was going to play it.
Laurent: Eric is such an exciting character to play because its' a physical part. Guy using your body as part of your performance, was it something particular?
Guy : I love that. I'd rather let my body speak than with dialogues. I'm much more an instinctive character than an intellectual one.
David: It's amazing how much information you can send to the audience with a physical acting. Very soon during the rehearsal we talked about using the shoulder and his way to walk. The shoulders and the neck. It's strange to think it's often the way to get a character. When I 1st realized that on the shooting it was very exciting for me since Guy's character became really lively!
Laurent : and after all it's the story of the movie. They are like animals. It's also a metaphor of our society. It's not really good currently to be a human being with the global crisis. We can really go back to our primitive instincts. Maybe I'm wrong but I think it's the movie's topic right?
David: When I was writing the script, I was projecting myself in the future as it is depicted in the movie and there were my own anguish and my own despair and in particular through Eric, Guy's character with his anger. I started imagining an older world in a few decades, completely devasted by the people who are in charge today : from the origins of the economic crisis to our inability to find a solution to fight global warming. I just imagine the Man in a few decades living in a world in which he's angry. Angry enough to commit murders.
Laurent: Do you agree with that Robert? Is it really about our society?
Rob: Yeah . When I read the script, I was thinking about all the ramifications of the story. In the movie you can see 2 stories which are close together and they are full of emotions. It's what makes me and Guy come closer.
Guy: To build these charactars, you have to start from the inside in order to understand the feeling and the essence of the character. Of course you know something's happening on a larger scale. But personnally, in order to play my character correctly , I had to build him from the inside towards the outside. After that you finally understand what's happening and that's when you arrive in Cannes that you realize "Oh yeah that's it!".
Laurent: The movie has a connection with the current economic and political world. It's a post apocalyptic movie. Currently , and not only in France, but also in the USA or even in Australia , it's the same mess. You know what I mean?
Guy : How easily we're always on the verge of a global catastrophe for anybody !
Rob: It's completely ridiculous. I remember a scene we were shooting near a mine which was still active . We just stood there and realized how ridiculous the situation was. How ridiculous the mine was taking out all the ressources within the ground. Nothing will be growing up for at least 400 years. There isn't any wild fauna left. There's only birds left. We just have to sit down and play video games.
Laurent: Yeah you're right and at the same time it's a real movie. It's really cinematographic. There's a lot of light, desert and huge landscape. Was it a hard shooting for you?
David: We had quite a big crew if we consider the place we were shooting. We were very very far from the next city?
Laurent: From the civilized world too?
David: And it was very hard. It was so hot. There were a lot of flies. There weren't any network. We were constantly dirty.
Laurent: You mean no mobile phones, no networks?
Guy : the more up north we went, the less network we got. We just put our mobile phones on the tables and we just realized that we had to talk to each other.
David : Which was wonderful. We stuck together every nights. As we were leaving at the same place, we started to get drunk !
Laurent: Did you feel a kind of pressure on your shoulders since Animal Kingdom, your previous movie, had a huge success in the whole world. Did it add some pressure for this movie?
David: Yeah I felt pressure Not necessarily when we started shooting but when I decided to do this. This movie , I literally get into it. It's now when we arrived in Cannes that I could feel the audience's expectations. I don't know what other people are expecting from me for this 2nd movie. I have no idea abt what they are hoping for. So I have absolutely no control to know if my movie will meet their expections or not. So this is the aim of this week in Cannes : to try to know the place of The Rover in the world.
Laurent: Do you agree with that Guy?
Guy : I can't see what he's talking about !
Laurent: You drank too much last night !
Guy: Of course I understand him perfectly ! It's interesting when we speak about the expectations surrounding a movie. What is fascinating in our job is the huge difference between the reality of what we are living from the inside , when we shoot a movie, and how is it perceived outside. At a certain level , trying to understand what people are feeling from the outside is exactly the same thing when you try to understand from the outside how we work in the inside. We can think that these two processus are ridiculous but I understand the point of view. The 1st movie David made...
Laurent: Yeah Animal Kingdom.
Guy: was an incredible movie
Laurent: Absolutely.
Guy: It had an incredible success. The importance is to know if you can deal with the pressure from the 2nd movie. Are you obliged to be as good as the 1st one? Or do you do like David and you focus on the following movie and the following one and not try to compare with the first movie. It's this way you can manage to do it. Its the problem when you come to places like Cannes. People are automatically comparing movies. I want to say "Oh no don't make comparisons!".
Laurent: Is it the same thing for you Robert? Do you know exactly what is your next project or is ot the contrary? Do you say 'I've made a movie with David Cronenberg, with David Michôd, now I'm going to try something really different? '
Rob: No I think it depends on the director's choice but it took me a while to realize that. You'd be much happier working with the best directors in the world and something better will always stand out. You don't necessarily need to read the script. It'll be great to have them.
Laurent: Guy, I remembered you in Cannes for LA Confidentials. It was 17 years ago, in 1997. We were a lot younger then.
Guy : Yeah a lot younger !
Laurent: Is is always a new experience being here in Cannes?
Guy: Oh yeah absolutely. I met this morning the producers of "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert "which premiered here in 1994. Unfortunately I coudn't be here. Generally , we come here with great films. This year it's with The Rover, two years ago it was with Lawless and of course before that with LA Confidentials. It's a great experience. In Cannes, movies have always had a priviledged place so it's an honour to be here. Here people really adore films so...
Laurent: Is it the same thing for you Robert?
Rob: I love to come in Cannes. I always try my best to come here. For the moment, it's a complete success. I got three out of three.
Guy: We are going to help you fix that. We're going to ask Jane Campion.
Rob: Yeah it's the same for me. It's here we can feel people's gratitude. It's completely different. Even for the interview. Everywhere else in the world when I'm promoting a movie, I'm only asked what is my favourite meal or something like that. It's so frustrating.
David: Noboby asks me this question !
Laurent: And screening your movie is Cannes it's a bit crazy ?
David: It's crazy when you look at that from an outside point of view. It's exactly what we think. But I realize that this festival worships the cinema with his ceremonies and his traditions, with the upcoming pressure going with each screening on several days. So when we land on the stairs we know we're going to live one of the most important moment in our lives. It's really magical .
Laurent: Thank you very much all of you. Thank you.

Természetesen amikor forgatsz, a munka mindig folyamatosan fejlődik.

Rob: Igen, amikor elolvassuk a jellemzését.

Guy: És a forgatás előtt is próbáltunk.

Guy: Bezár a szobáinkba.

Tényleg vissza tudunk térni a primitív ösztöneinkhez.

Tényleg a társadalmunkról szól?

Rob: Igen. Amikor elolvastam a forgatókönyvet, a történet különböző ágaira gondoltam.

Laurent: A civilizációtól is?

Ahogy kezdtük elhagyni a civilizációt, kezdtünk berúgni!

Most, hogy megérkeztünk Cannes-ba, itt érzem a közönség elvárásait.
