What I like about this, and we're talking about it is how, obviously your fan base, as it were, not to be you know, sterotypical, but like this is gonna be the first Cronenberg film for a lot of like 14 year-old girls, I would think. It's just kind of awsome in a way.
RP: Yeah, this is like the strangest misconsception, i think it's a misconsception, like Twilight fans, they're not that young.
I: Right, they're all over the place.
RP: I would say like 70% would be over 18. I mean, in my encounters.
I: They're just the loudest.
RP: And the tallest.
I: Exactly. And the kids, you can't see them.
RP: Yeah, I don't know. I would like if 14 year-olds would watch it, that would be cool. I would have loved to see one of his movies when I was 14.
I: What was your first Cronenberg movie?
RP: Scanners.
I: That was the first one, and the favourite?
RP: Videodrome would be my favourite.
I: And the fly guy, the Fly?
RP: I like the ones that are kind of more dreamy, the less filmy
I: The Fly comes conventional by his standards.
RP: That's the only one that has ever made any money.

I: I know, you read the script, and there was an other actor attached for a while, and then this comes back around to you. When you get that call, that Cronenberg wants you for this, that's gotta be one of the best professional moments in you career.
RP: Yeah, it was one of the first time I actually considered myself as an actor. My first question was like what do you see, why are you hiring me? Because Cronenberg is one of those people who, when others ask you, didn't even come into my head, it's saying like, wanna work with Orson-Wells, in David's interpretation, you though I was dead?
I: So when he tells you that he wants you for this, does that immediately kind of validate, becuase well I've been frank maybe early on, you had a kind of fame before maybe you in your own head thought you had the chops, I think, I feel like you've caught up now. You know what I mean, you kind of had that moment where like you can clearly do it well on screen, and you're getting the roles to justify it.
RP: N, you kind of, it was total luck, it was like a gift to get the job, I mean, I have sort of fell into acting, it's not like I've been striving since I was a kid to get anything, but I feel like I know, I like movies more than acting. And I like the idea of being in movies that I like. So this is contributing something. But I don't know about validation. As soon as you feel validated, you're a bad actor. You need to constantly feel that there's a 99% chance of failure. Total failure, devastating failure. You should feel like every single job is potential which you're never gonna get again. And you should feel good about it. And it's all about actually living in the present.
I: So you're not getting a boost out of the fact like this really is getting one of the best of your career. People are reweing
RP: It's a relief not to get shit on.
RP: You kind of get ---- and after you start desperately seeking out the bad ones.
I: That's not the case with you Rob, what's wrong with you?

RP: Ez inkább olyan szerencse, ajándék volt ez a munka, elvégre én inkább csak úgy belecsöppentem a színészkedésbe, nem olyan, mintha gyerekkorom óta ebben az irányban küzdenék, sokkal inkább a filmeket szeretem. De nagyon szeretek olyan filmekben szerepelni, amiket szeretek. Ez hozzáad a dolgokhoz. De nem tudok a megerősítés dologról. Amint jóváhagyottnak érzed magad, akkor rossz színész vagy. What's the best preparation for something like this?
RP: I don't know, I mean, I kind of, I don't know, I sort of didn't know at all how to prepare for the role, I mean I did lot's of different things all over the board, I didn't have any specific plan, and I was getting more and more nervous as I came to the first day of shooting. Then almost spontaniously combusted when I first sat in the limo. The first day we were doing the screen test, me and Sarah Gadon, and she asked me just as a normal conversation, 'Oh so what did you do to prep the character?' and I was very close to killing myself or killing her, instantaneously I was just like (nyög), I remember like running out the car and going back to my trailor, like 'I hate her' (suttogja). And then it took like 3 weeks to realize what she actually asked me.
I: Because she was putting you on spot?
RP: I just kind of felt like I was gonna say, well I preped by watching J.D. Videos, and I was listening to Howard Dean, I was trying to imitate Howard Dean! And everything it was like what are you talking about?
I: Really you were listening to Howard Dean?
RP: Yeah, I was trying to do his accent. I was like I read Bobby F. on the biography. She was like why? --------- I don't even know how to use jo-jo!
I: You don't know how to use jo-jo?
RP: I still can't. Terrible.
I: Really? ---- on set. That's one of the things I actually can do, better than you probably. Are you good at memorisation, because the dialog in this is really intricated and styalised and extensive. So does that come naturally to you, what's your technique for learning just a volume of words?
RP: Just straight repetition, and I think that was one of the part which I felt was really helpful fot the character, because I've never really had to do that before. Because normally you think, you don't want to memorize too much, so it's kind of a little bit shocking to you when you go on set. But with this, it was kind of, I needed to, I mean I knew the whole script of my heart before the first day. It was like a play. So this kind of mechanical, just repetition, repetition and repetition, like I knew, I could like fast forward and rewind scenes in my head. And it was kind of helpful for the part. Cause everyone else, you know, if everyone had 2 or 3 scenes, you wouldn't have spent that 3 weeks, like every single minute of the day memorising their lines as well. So I kind of always felt like I had a little thing on everyone else, cause they had to come into the limo as well, which I was comfortable with and they weren't.
I: Welcome to my world.
RP: Yeah, exactly.
I: ---- favourite movies memorized by heart. What's the movie that you could recite? Do the one man show version of?
RP: I used to be able to do Fear and loath in Las Vegas, and The Mask.
I: Two words of t--- movies.
RP: And I'm one of the annoying people who likes to tell people, I remember the plots of things. And I ------- a movie, and just tell them the entire plot for like half an hour, and I drive people crazy.
I: And then Darth Vader takes off his helmet, and he's good!
RP: And someone just says, I'll see it, I'll see it, no-no, but I have to tell you this other bit, this happens, this is why it's good!
I: It's still better than hear me, explaining it to you.

RP: Nem tudom, nem tudtam hogyan készüljek fel, összességében sok mindent csináltam, de nem volt egy kifejezett tervem, csak egyre idegesebbé váltam, ahogy a forgatás első napja közeledett. Majd szinte spontán megvilágosodott előttem az egész, amikor először ültem be a limóba. Az első napon Sarah Gadon kérdezte meg, csak úgy, 'Na és hogyan készültél fel a szerepre?' és én közel voltam ahhoz megöljem vagy magam, vagy őt, csak így egyből, én meg csak (nyög), emlékeszem, hogy kifutottam az autóból, vissza a lakókocsimba, és csak ültem ott, arra gondolva hogy 'utálom őt' (suttogja). Utána 3 hétig tartott amíg rájöttem, hogy tulajdonképpen csak egy kérdést tett fel.
I: Egyből rátalált a gyenge pontra, mi?
RP: Csak úgy éreztem, hogy mégis mit mondhatnék? Hogy J.D. Videókat néztem, meg Howard Dean-t hallgattam, utánozni próbáltam Howard Dean-t! És bármit mondhattam volna, a reakció annyi lett volna hogy 'miről beszélsz?'
I: Tényleg Howard Dean-t hallgattad?
RP: Igen, próbáltam utánozni az akcentusát. Mintha Bobby F. életrajzát olvasnám. Sarah meg kérdezte, hogy miért? ------ azt se tudom hogyan kell jo-józni!
I: Tényleg nem?
RP: Még most se. Szörnyű.
I: Tényleg? Kellett volna egynek lennie a forgatáson. Az az egyike azoknak a dolgoknak, amit meg tudok csinálni, ezek szerint talán jobban is mint te. És hogy állsz a memorizálással? Elvégre ebben a szöveg igen bonyolult és stílszerű?? és terjedelmes. Ez természetesen jön neked, vagy van valami módszered hogy megtanulj ennyi szót?
RP: Csak folyamatos ismétlés, és szerintem ez volt az egyik ok, ami sokat segített a szerep megformálásában, mert ilyet még nem nagyon kellett eddig csinálnom. Mert általában úgy vagy vele, hogy nem kell túl sok mindent megtanulni, szóval egy kissé sokkoló volt a forgatáson. De itt szükség volt rá, úgy értem, tudtam az egész forgatókönyvet fejből, már az első nap előtt. Olyan volt mint egy színjáték. Szóval csak mechanikusan ismételni, ismételni és ismételni, akár tudtam előre- és visszatekerni jeleneteket a fejemben. És ez sokat segített. Mert a többieknek, legtöbbjüknek csak 2-3 jelenetük volt, és akkor te se töltenél három hét minden percét azzal, hogy megtanuld a forgatókönyv összes sorát. Ugyanakkor úgy éreztem, hogy nekem volt némi előnyöm, mert nekik mindig be kellett jönniük a limóba, ahol én már kényelmesen (magabiztosan) éreztem magam, ők pedig nem.
I: Üdv az én világomban.
RP: Pontosan.
I: Vannak olyanok, akik fejből tudnak filmeket. Neked van-e olyan filmed amit el tudsz mondani, egy olyan egy-emberes előadás változatban?
RP: Régen el tudtam mondani a Félelem és Reszketés Las Vegas-bant, vagy a Maszkot.
I: Csak két szót ezekből.
RP: Én azoknak az idegesítő embereknek az egyike vagyok, aki azzal idegesíti az embereket, hogy mi történt a filmben. Szóval megnézek egy filmet, aztán elmondom az egészet, kb fél órán át csak azt mondom, és persze megőrjítek mindenkit.
