Cosmopolis Press Conference 1. rész

Q1: This is the third film you made with Mr Cronenberg, what is it that about his work and relationship that brings you together time after time?
Martin Katz: You think about a lot of things when you get starting on a projekt, the most important thing is, do I wanna live with this person for 2 or 3 years that takes to get a film together and made, and there are a few people on the planet that would be, that are more wonderful to spend time with than David. So that's really, you know, my response. It's just he turns the business of filmmaking into a joy. We talk about , you know when we talk about working together, we talk about playing together, which is really wonderful way to spend your time.
DC: Oh. I love you too Martin.

David a filmkészítés üzletét élvezetté alakítja.
DC: Oh. Én is szeretlek, Martin.

Q2: This couldn't have been an easy movie to get financed, could you tell me a little bit about your approach to that end of this process?
MK: Surprisingly it's a very difficult time to get movies financed. But to go out into the world and say 'We're making a contemporary thriller set in a financial world and it's directed by David' was really a pitch that caught everyone's attention. I'm not sure they all expected to see the movie you're gonna see tonight, which is fantastically accomplished and beautiful film, which is about the collapse of the financial world, but it's, it was a lot simpler to find the money than a lot, than a lot of films. And so basically we put the money together, a third of the money came from the world, a third of it from Canada and about a third came from France and Italy and Portugal.

Q3: Well, thank you! Emily Hampshire – in some of the interviews you did at the Cannes film festival you compared shooting your segment as almost like making a short film. Is that kind of how you approached it?
EH: Yeah, I think, like, I think it was kind of good that we all had mini-movies, and it was nice to be contained in that way, and I think having all our stuff shot together too, like you don't usually shoot in order, but at least in this instance you got to shoot your whole storyline in order.

Q4: And, how did you prepare for the role? From what I understand, the one piece of direction that Mr Cronenberg gave you was the position that Robert would be in
EH: That was a direction to Rob. I don't know which I was more excited about – having David bent over me and show Rob how to get a prostate exam, or Rob bending over me and getting one.
DC: You don't have to choose, really.
EH: But actually, how I prepared first, was my friend J valaki, who'd shot a few days before me, and so I called him, and said 'What is David like, what's it gonna be like on set?' and he said that you don't direct, and he said not to be offended, if you didn't say anything after my scene, so I was very glad to have that kind of preparation, cause I think I might have cried if I did the scene and you just said nothing. We were in this limo, so we had like a mic wired in, that David would direct from, and it sounded like the voice of God coming in, and so to just hear lik 'Again!' was terrifying.
DC: I hope the snoring didn't bother you.
EH: But in terms of preparation for the part I really, I read the book, which I heard later that you told people not to do, but i read the book, and I just went with the, what I normally do, I guess, just read the whole script too.

Q5: Well, congratulations on that. David, (nevetnek) Congratulations for reading the whole script.
EH: It was hard.
Q: I know, in keepin?? David, you wrote the script in 6 days, can you tell me, what it was about Don DeLillo's book that drew you in, first of all what changes you made in the 6 days that you took to write the script?
DC: Well, I don't know, I have, you've all seen the film, or you haven't seen the film? Anybody hasn't seen the film? Cause I wouldn't want to talk about leaving things in and out if you hadn't seen it. Well, it was the dialog, the backbone of it, and I really thought okay, this is like typical DD dialog, which is realistic, because Americans do speak that way, but it's also very stalized, and I do think of it as being kind of Pinteresque ??? (8:30) in that it has a real stylized rythm and tone that you can recognize from a mile away, and that the punctuation really matters, so I literally had the book here and I had my computer here, and I transcribed all of the dialog and put it in screenplay form, and looked at it and said, okay, is this a movie or not? And then I said yeah, I think it actually is. And the next three days I just put in all the action stuff and that was it. And it was easy to, when I met DD finally in ???? (9:10) and he had read the script by that time, I hadn't had any direct contact with him at that point, and he said, 'I was really interested to see, how you were gonna handle the Beno's journal thing.' Because Beno writes in the book a journal, a very detailed journal and you see it very soon in the novel, and he, for one thing says, that 'Eric Packer's body's lying at my feet' line, and he said that 'I was interested to see that you handled it by leaving it out'. And I said, well sure, cause I can't do that in cinema, and my experience, now having a doubt of quite a few things, is to, the rule of thumb is accept, that there are certain things that you can't do in movies that you can easily do in novels, and vice versa. And so the things that didn't work, or I couldn't make work, I just left out. And I thought that what was left, and so, what I say is, I don't give you Beno's journal, but I do give you Paul. I give you Paul's face and his voice and his eyes and his movement, and I figured that's my credit to fold-swap??? (10:16). I give you that instead. That's the cinematic way of giving you Beno without the journal. Other little changes in the book, the DD character played by Juliette Binoche, all of the happens in her apartement in the book, in a posh?? NY apartement, and I thought no, that's gonna be boring I'd really like them to do that in the limo. Especially since I was feeling that we were gonna see the movie from Eric's point of view pretty much. So when he was in the limo we've been in the limo, I just felt it more interesting. And finally, oh yeah, there was an orgy scene, the idea was that there is a reconciliation between Eric and Elise on the streets of NY where a movie orgy scene has been filmed, this is a novel of course, and there were a 150 naked people lying around on the streets of NY with no police, or anything, and he and Elise sort of take their clothes off and lie down together and have this reprochmaa??????? on the streets of NY and I thought okay, so that's not gonna work. I really thought that it was, if you're just reading the book, that this is a fantasy of Eric's, fantasy of reconciliation and his relationship with his wife really is over, and he just, this is really just in his head, and as a result it just wouldn't work on screen, so I left it out.

Q5: Nos, gratulálok hozzá. David, (nevetnek) Gratuláció, hogy végigolvastad a forgatókönyvet.
EH: Nehéz volt.
Q: Az biztos.

--- this phenomenon is British sensation, Robert Pattinson. From Billboard to magazine covers these days you can't go anywhere withouth seeing his face. He began his career at the age of 15 and soon after landed his first big role in another blockbuster franchise Harry Potter. But, it was his performance as EC, the brooding vampire in Twilight that has made him an international heartthrob. He's marked by adorable fans wherever he goes.

A karrierje 15 évesen kezdődött, amikor első nagyobb szerepét a nagy sikerű Harry Potter sorozatban játszotta.

I: Have you noticed them around? Lurking, the fans?
RP: Sometimes, sometimes, I mean, in like Paris yesterday, there were a few. But I mean, it's nice, the only time it people think it gets scary with fans, is when they're just so many of them. And it does turn into like a kind of hysteria.
I: It's like zooloo. They're just coming from the mountains
RP: I love that scene
RP: I don't walk around with my shirt off all the time, like a little dork
I: Somewhere they printed photos of a toilet you used.
RP: Oh really?
I: Really. Nice toilet as well, clean bowl to sit down, I was very impressed.

RP: That's the thing, people read and I'm so ignorant, I just think, 'Oh I don't read this stuff, I'm not the one who reads it' and it takes quite a while to. I don't think even has --- that anyone has to read it??????. And so like sometimes you get frustrated about things, but like you know, it's
RP: I also had a ---- in NY as well, which was one of the exciting one of my mother
I: Oh my gush, did your mum call you?
RP: Yeah. And also I was like so, I 've been working so much my mum calls me up so much, but like I didn't answer my phone, and one of the security guy from the film came, and like ran into my room and I was like what are you doing?

I: Észrevetted őket? A rejtőzdökő rajongókat?
I: Olyan mint a zooloo. A hegyekből jönnek.
I: Valahol nyomtattak képeket egy wc-ről, amit használtál.
RP: Tényleg?
I: Tényleg.

RP: Legutóbb New Yorkban, anyummal kapcsolatban
I: Oh a mindenit, felhívtad az anyukádat?
RP: Igen.

I: Welcome to Twilight day on T... Great to see you sir.
RP: I didn't know there was a Twilight day.
I: You better believe, it is all day long.

I: Üdv a Twilight napon a T...-n.
I: De bizony, egész nap.

RP: Try driving a fancy car. It's like secure about something???
RP: And it's wealthier.
RP: Do you only get all the s?? character
RP: I got scary, obsessed fans I guess.
I: Pyjamas were … suit him
RP::::::
I: Last text message you received from a family member
RP: Why aren't you calling me?

RP: Egy pöpec autó. Biztosítva van ez? (vagy vmi ilyesmi)
RP: Tehetősebb.
RP: Te csak a …. szerepeket kapod?
RP: Ijesztő és megszállott rajongóim vannak gondolom.
I: Pizsama hmmm.
I: A legutóbbi üzenet amit egy családtagtól kaptál?
RP: Miért nem hívsz fel?

I: We are on the red carpet now with really what's become one of the biggest stars of the year, Robert Pattinson, the star of Twilight, who will also be in the sequel, who I also understand might be taking the stage tonight.
RP: Yeah, I am, yes. All correct, all correct.
I: One of the few secrets that leaked out, that people are glad to know you'll be there.
RP: I know, I don't know why I was the only one. I was quite, I don't know if it a good thing or a bad thing. Being the only one what was leaked.
I: You have a lot of young fans, don't you now, since Twilight's come out, what is that reaction been, when these 16-17-18 year old people come up to you to say you're awesome.
RP: I mean, I think I have the same reaction as anyone, it's just completely baffling, I mean, you know, it's such a change of my life since last year. Really, it's weird.
I: You would like people to know that you are an actor, and you play many different roles, in fact, you have a movie coming out very soon.
RP: Yeah, I have a film called Little ashes, which is of Salvador Dali and Lorka. It's premier is in may, may 8th I think.
I: Will you be taking the stage with anyone we might know?
RP: It's with Amanda Seyfried.
I: All right, RP thank you so much.

I: Itt vagyunk a vörös szőnyegen Robert Pattinsonnal, aki az egyik legnagyobb sztárja az évnek, a Twilight-ból, aki benne lesz majd a folytatásban is, és ha minden igaz, ma este a színpadon is szerepelni fog.
RP: Igen, mind igaz.
RP: Igen, a Little Ashes, ami Salvador Dali és Lorka életéről szól.
I: Lesz veled valaki a színpadon, akit esetleg ismerünk?
RP: Amanda Seyfried.
I: Oké, nagyon köszönöm.

RP: So quickly, I had 5 minutes
I: What was it, was it stolgy? Nostalgy??????????
RP: Eggs and bacon --- I was having every second of it.
I: I was gonna sit somewhere
RP: I was like doing an interview

RP: szóval csak gyorsan, csak 5 percem volt.
I:

I: Hy Robert, could you say hi to AU. Com? Vagy sem
RP: Hei, au.com.

I: Hy Robert, köszönnél az ausztrália.com-nak?
RP: Hei, au.com

Valamilyen cats – comiccon

DL: It's much different and it's young girls, and then also, in addition to young girls, their mothers, is that correct too?
RP: That's a very stange experience having around clapping in the darkness, when you kind of you can't tell who is that. Yeah, there are some mothers, and there's also, in addition to that there are a couple more guys in the sequel. There was a guy of kind of, maybe, 230 pound guy, who was at the premier, kind of, spanic looking, and he was asking me to bite him as well. So I did, and the surprising thing was that I kinda liked it, and I've been out to dinner with him a couple of times.

I: One last thing, as I spoke to Taylor earlier, and obviously there's a human, vampire, werewolf triangle at the heart of the new film. Taylor told me werewolves are awesome pretty much and vampires paste----- rubbish men. Now I'm gonna give you the chance to get back on him. We're gonna say it to him. Tell me that vampires are sort of freaking awesome.
RP: At least I don't have get around wearing

Ellen: … we're back with RP. So this is huge, you have a doll. Did you know that?
RP: I did, I was shown it yesterday. Oh no, I haven't seen that one, I haven't realised it's with a stand, a little bit awkward.
E: And look, you're wearing the Ellen underwear.

RP: You know, when you are 23, you're a complete idiot, you're just a slag, you should never who you are, and that's a good thing about doing acting as a job is that it's your job to kind of try and mime parts of your character that you don't know, or other people don't know about me. People always have the ability to surprise themselves I think, and if you're not surprising yourself in life, then you might as well DIE!

I: --- to ask you questions, for you to answer in the style of Taylor, who plays Jacob. You play a ------- werewolf, give us you top tip for menacing growl.
RP: My menacing growl would be like
I: playing against Britains biggest heartthrob, and he answered in the style of you and he said
RP: oh well, you know, it was really intimidating, it was really difficult for me, because, you know, I'd never be able to compete on a same level, and he just kind of surpasses me in every
aspect

RP: A legfenyegetőbb morgásom ilyen lenne (morog)

RP: I look a bit like him.
RP: Valamennyire hasonlítok rá.

I: It's like hysterical. I'd like to give you an award. I don't know what it is. Like a wave, or something. You're a proud winner of that.
RP: Thank you very much. It doesn't say promking??? on it.
I: Genuinely we lost that somewhere.
RP: What does that mean, where do I, I didn't even know people had proms in England.
I: Yeah, this is the deal now. Promise.
RP: That's a disgrace, that's just copying??? people. Thanks very much for those, whose listening on Switch. I'm very bad at being promking, I will try to rule prominently????.

I: Hisztérikus.
I: Igen, manapság nagy dolog.

RP: That's just a mouse, it's rubbish.

A Robsessed interjúja Patricia McKenzie-vel

ROBsessed: What was your diet like to prepare for the physically demanding scene?
Patricia McKenzie: Sadly, I kind of peaked before we shot. I had done a three week detox some months before, looked lean for a bit, and figured I'd do it again in time for the love scene. That scene ended up being pushed up a month early so in the three days I had to prepare, I did a partial juice fast, cut down on solid foods, and drank lots of water, just to feel like I was doing something. In the end, I don't think diet really mattered, and in my experience as an actor, no one ever seems to care about any extra pounds on me or anyone else. What an actor is expressing is far more important and interesting to watch than how flat their tummy is.

ROBsessed: Did you and Rob collaborate with David for the scene?
McKenzie: We had a rehearsal on set that morning to try some things, but finally David decided we would do the whole scene while making love, and all in one take which was quite a challenge. My first career was as a dancer, where you rehearse for 8 weeks before stepping onstage. Now, I'm always amazed at how much we as actors have to bring to the table, and be ready to improvise, and how fast the director has to think on his feet to orchestrate it all.

ROBsessed: Is Xanax prescribed for the day to calm nerves? I'm joking ;) kind of
McKenzie: It would have been tempting to have wine before the scene! One of the first film acting jobs I ever had was laced with highly erotic content, and I was young, naive, and an absolute prude. To get through the love scenes they had to ply me with red wine and the director promised me, on the life of her children, that I wouldn't be ashamed of the result. She was an angel, and in hindsight, the scene was very tame. The relationship of an actor to a director is crucial, you have to put all of your faith in their vision, so what made the intimacy in Cosmopolis really easy for me was that I trusted David completely. Rob was a sweetheart as well, very supportive and very professional. From a holistic standpoint, to mentally prepare for an intense day on set, deep breathing saves me every time, as well as a mantra not to judge myself positively or negatively, just to be. "Express, don't impress" is my aspiration.

ROBsessed: How many takes did you have to do because the shot is fairly long and uninterrupted. Was it difficult to be so wordy with such a physical scene?
McKenzie: It was a long, sweaty day, but I like being physical, and I like the heightened awareness everyone has on set during a love scene. Those days have a very different energy from the other days. Yeah, it was lots of fun and a delightful challenge to deal with unconventional dialogue in the heat of passion. I have played various lesbians on Canadian shows for years, so it was a nice change to be partnered with Rob.

ROBsessed: Was the gun heavy? Did you film Eric being tasered?
McKenzie: With so much action, I hardly remember the weight of the gun. We did not film Eric being tasered, Rob really wanted to, and do it for real. Thank goodness, I would hate to have been the one to have to taser him! I've been exposed to all kind of guns on set and they always terrify me.

ROBsessed: Who was stronger? You or Rob?
McKenzie: I think he is a gentleman and would let me win if we wrestled.

ROBsessed: How do you mentally prepare?
McKenzie: Let go of all expectations and go with the moment. There was almost no preparation I could do, although I tried valiantly, and sweated over it for months. I think ultimately my preparation was to let go of needing to feel prepared and just trust.

ROBsessed: Did you suspect Rob fans would find the scene pretty steamy?
McKenzie: I purposely didn't watch any playback so I had no idea what the scene looked like or how people would react, although I had an inkling that people on set seemed to think it was hot, judging by the way everyone came out of the woodwork, and gathered around the monitor. Ha Ha. It's all about the scene while I'm working, connecting with my costar, being as truthful and revealing as I can and trying to be compelling. After it was all done, like any actor, I ultimately want approval, so I sweated for a few weeks, hoping people wouldn't abhor my presence in the film, or even worse, that the scene would end up on the cutting room floor! Eventually I always come to the conclusion that other people's opinions of my work or even my sex appeal, are none of my business and my job is to keep any of those concerns out of my mind. But, I have to admit that I am thrilled and amazed to have pleased Rob's discerning and dedicated fans!

ROBsessed: Tell us something we might not know about Rob and David.
McKenzie: They are two of the sweetest men in Hollywood. Both are extremely humble in person and lack pretension. I felt very comfortable around both of them. David Cronenberg gave me a big hug the first time I ever saw him, and he said he was happy to finally meet me, which was so disarming, charming and fatherly. I think that is when I fell in love, because I will give everything to a director that makes me feel as safe and protected as a child. And Cronenberg is so patient. He gives everyone on set all the time they need to do their best work, and speaks quietly to keep the atmosphere on set very calm and enjoyable. David was also very patient with my fawning over him at the warp party, because I was so appreciative of his work style I just couldn't help gushing like a schoolgirl with with a crush, very embarrassing in retrospect. I didn't expect Rob to be so tall, and so charming. Everyone loved him on set. He can carry his own in any conversation and takes pains to make others feel at ease. He is very down-to-earth and low-key, the kind of guy that just chills with his dog, or with a pint. What's his dogs name, Bear? I'm pretty sure I remember that from playing with him, although it's possible I heard the name somewhere, but anyone who calls a small dog "Bear" has a good sense of humour. I had two 95lb boxers named Zeus and Troy, that I was missing, so it was fun to play with that friendly little Bear. Anyway, I got the impression that he preferred a dark pub, to cruising on a yacht, or anything fancy. He actually called me "fancy" because yes, if there's an occasion, I may prefer boating to beers on a hot summer day, but otherwise, I like to stay home and immerse myself in my own world.

ROBsessed: Describe the scene in 3 words.
Patricia McKenzie: erotic. erotic. erotic. erotic. exotic. enigmatic.

ROBsessed: Describe Kendra in 3 words.
McKenzie: alone. searching. free

ROBsessed: How does it feel to beat the iconic Edward & Bella among Robsessed fans?
McKenzie: I have never seen any of the Twilight movies, so I don't know what tantalizing celluloid the scene was up against, but I am really honoured to have been in the running.

ROBsessed: Rob once said sex scene tricks have modesty patches. What other tricks are used in sex scenes? Mint gum?
McKenzie: Wardrobe arrives between each take with a robe, to cover the actors up, touch up makeup and spray fake sweat, although the last part was wholly unnecessary. It's incredibly hot and sweaty gyrating under cinema lights, and I was going through a phase, as I sometimes do, where I stopped using deodorant and wearing nail polish or any other chemicals. All part of my detox. It takes me a lot to work up a sweat, so I didn't really consider how hot I would be or how potentially smelly. So luckily, I had two little deodorant wipes, that I tried to use, which was mortifying, but at least maybe he knew I was trying not to be offensively oderous. As far as being covered up, I had nothing, and Rob had a white sport sock taped on with masking tape, for modesty which was pretty funny. Sometimes I find those awkward cover-ups only draw attention to the nudity and make me more self-conscious than if I have nothing, but he didn't buy my argument, and kept the sock, rather flimsily attached.

ROBsessed: What do you think Kendra did after Eric's tasered? Watch QVC or recharge the gun?
McKenzie: I think she briefly considered kissing him all over to try to soothe his pain, but then left before he recovered.

ROBsessed: Did you have a trainer to get in shape or trained yourself?
McKenzie: I have a lifetime of dance training that keeps me in decent shape. I dabbled in boxing to feel more like a bodyguard and discovered that boxing, apart from being a killer workout, is a great complement to acting. If you are not completely in the moment as a boxer, you lose, much like acting.

ROBsessed: How are you still alive?
McKenzie: Ha ha. It's always a thrill to be working on set, especially with such luminaries in the craft, but most of my time is spent auditioning, creating opportunities, and in the pursuit of other passions I have. The exciting moments are tempered by the reality of staying focussed, not taking rejection personally and appreciating what I have, when I have it.

ROBsessed: What are you working on now? Would you work with Rob and David again?
McKenzie: I'm in the ensemble of a TV murder mystery series called "Still Life" based on a series of novels by Louise Penny that starts soon. On the side, I'm pitching a Sit-Com I'd like to produce if I can get enough funding, and I've really been in my element writing a bunch of new songs, and looking forward to recording them in studio. Of course I look forward to working with Rob and David again. They know where to find me, I hope they call soon!

R: Milyen diétán voltál, hogy felkészülj a fizikailag megerőltető jelenetre?
M: Sajnos, a forgatás előtt kissé megbetegedtem.

M: Egy pohár bor csábító lett volna a jelenet előtt!

Mindenki szerette őt a forgatáson.

R: Most min dolgozol?
